This project was carried out at praça Roma, Jardim de Alah in Ipanema. Our group worked with Daise Dias Sobrinho Thomé, who teaches Tai Chi Chuan for sixty people from Tuesday to Friday from 7 am to 9 am.

The classes are based in a synchronyed sequence of movements of arms and legs which simulates a fight.

From the group of words most frequently spoken by Daise, we could formulate the sentence in which we based the purpose of our project: Tai Chi looks for the accurate point of balance together with concentration, coordination and breathing practice.

To execute the sequence of movements during the Tai Chi Chuan class, the person needs to practise to foccus on details, to develop coordination to reproduce what the teacher does, to work on body balance and to learn how to breathe correctly.

Based on the experience we shared with Daise we noticeed the need for special shoes for the Tai Chi Chuan practice.

The material for the special shoes that most satisfied Daise was the EVA.  Because of its softness and thinness this material provides more comfort, improves the sensibility of the feet and helps to increese balance.

We learned a lot with this project. We learned new technics like vacuum forming, we did a lot of experiments using these technics, we a had a good overview of a designer's work and above all we learned to make appropriate questions and answer them, trying to find the best solution for an specific problem.
