“Geração”, Course of sand soccer

Atlantic Av. - Beach of Copacabana, in front of the hotel Copacabana Palace, between 3 ranks 2 Rio De Janeiro

My project was made in a football class called Geração located in Copacabana beach. I followed alone the feminine soccer lessons that have as professor Fabrício Santos.

I worked on the training of the most advanced girls in the modality, which happens every day from 20h to 22h.

In the beginning of each class, it has a heating and along, followed buy activities that Fabrício chooses for the day, such as: training the goal keeper, muscular strength, preparation for the championships, etc. By the end of the class they have a soccer competition, more as recreation.

Fabrício has a very important role, not only as a professor, but also as technician and someone to stimulate the girls.

During the process, I wrote down some words that Fabrício said while giving his lessons and from the set of words that compose the vocabulary universe of Fabrício we recognize as subject for the project: “Ih alá, ball straight ahead!”

This phrase associates with almost all the activities that the girls do. When not playing with the ball, they are having exercises with the intention of increasing the ability of the team, making the team go ahead. A soccer competition is a good example of this phrase.

After many experiments the project was defined as a ball with approximately 1kg and 20cm of diameter, that

would help improving muscular strength, and training the goal keeper mostly, therefore it would be used with the hands.

In way to decide the material of the ball, researches was made and the definition was to fill a plastic bag with sand making it’s interior, then involving it with slashes of spume and others types of fabrics forming layers, so it would increase the size and make the ball softer and more compact which was what Fabrício desired . Then this “half a ball “ was placed inside a mesh, previously cut in circles and sewn in the extremities . For better finishing, a band was placed in the folds that the sewing produced.

Fabrício loved the result, and he’s going to use it to train the goal keepers. As this ball is heavier it will make it easier for them to catch the regular ones.
