Our project was undertaken at the Creche Jardim dos Pirilampos, in cooperation with the teacher Fátima de Sousa, who works during the morning entertaining the children with games and story-telling.

The activities she organized were always very educational, involving techniques that help the children to improve their coordination skills and develop their personality, making creative use of newspaper cuttings, painting, story-telling, plays where the children often took part, and puppet shows.

From Fátima’s teaching repertoire, we chose as the theme for our project,  the following sentence: “Quando estiver assustado ouça, uma historinha” (When you’re frightened, listen to a story).

We related to our theme those activities that envolved role-playing, puppet shows and story-telling.

Then, we decided to do experiments that combined the story-telling with the plays. We came up with sceneries, drawings of different characters,  until we found out that Fátima liked to interact with the stories and the students, and that she made very creative use of different shapes during the elaboration of her ideas.

So, we came up with the idea of using geometric shapes with different colors and sizes to create the characters and settings that make up a story.

We already knew that Fátima had liked to work with cloth (because of another experiment we had given her to use), so this was what we created for her: A panel with  geomteric shapes of different colours and sizes, all  made out of felt, that could be used by the kids or their teachers to illustrate stories.

This panel allowst the kids to express themselves, creating different kinds of characters and stories on the panel.

Project class is all about working hard, thinking that you’ve done everything right and then realise that there’s still a lot to be fixed and then start all over again. (Paulo)

Project class makes you recognize that in order to create something there’s a long process to be followed and that all the steps are necessary so that the solution can be perfect. It is also about learning with your own mistakes and using them to improve your work. (Olivia)

I thank Olivia for the patience, that made our friendship grow even stronger.

I thank Fátima for her hard work, that helped me become even more pleased with my project.

I thank Paulo for his dedication, which made me prouder of him.

I thank Fátima for her enthusiasm for the project, which motivated me even more.
