The project performed at the school named  Escola Municipal Marília de Dirceu had as partner the teacher Bruna Maria Carneiro, from class 1201 (first grade). This class is formed by students who are learning how to read, write and mathematics first concepts.

The teacher usually brings exercise sheets (i.e letters of alphabet, drawings to be coloured, illustrate or complete stories) and sometimes she lets them free to play with games like puzzle or pieces to plug. She always incentives the students to help each other.

From words captured from Bruna’s vocabulary, we could recognize our project theme:: “1, 2, 3...Everybody, beside each other, colouring our school!”. We listed some activities that were related with the phrase: painting, drawing, decorating the classroom seating side by side. Then we initiated the experiment period.

The concept that we adopted was an object on which Bruna could chat with the children through a draw or a story.

The final product was a panel formed by 3 polystyrene boards sewed to 3 magnet sheets (2 boards of 26,5 cm X 37 cm and 1 of 26,5cm X 36cm). The boards were pierced and joined by the smallest length with black elastic string and sewed with an orange satin ribbon on the external edges of the panel. To hang it up we used a pair of hooks nailed on the top of the blackboard; a pair of strings sustains the panel as they are tied to 4 rings attached to the object. The dolls and objects that will compound scenes in the panel were printed in an adhesive sheet, glued to the magnet one and then they were cut.

Bruna now can use the panel to let the children’s creativity flows, to bring the classmates close and able to chat using scenes to talk about different subjects making classes more enjoyable.

The project at Marília de Dirceu school was for me, more than everything else, a learning process. Project always brings me a different subject to think about. And this one has brought me the prejudice issue. Prejudice as the pre-judgement in respect to the place and people due to stereotypes not personal experience. That changed a lot: my vision about people and situations in general, not only at the school, but in Ana’s classes, at home, on my singing classes, in my life.

Project also has always taught me more about people and about my work with others. And project was never that universal for me. Today a project is not mine, neither the team’s, neither the partner’s. That because not only these people had worked. All of those who listened, gave advices and helped the team got involved to the process and, therefore, to the project. From this experience I get another vision, from myself and my relationship with others. And that was, to me, an opening, a huge – and unexpected - conquest in so little time.     (Ticiana)

Project to me is not only create, experiment or even plan anything. But is also a way to understand how life really works out, as we are watching each step, each place, and each activity that a person lives. Because of that, while I project I think I’m living in a different world, learning new things, knowing people and new places. Doing this project at Marília de Dirceu school, made me think differently; it was indeed a lesson for my life. I observed people who live in another way and, that certainly suffer a lot of difficulties daily; and they’re just kids. What have I learned from this? I learned how to deal with people, How important it is to project with teachers who really know what they do and are nearby to help, breaking a certain prejudice that I had about that. Also being everyday with another person who makes you open your mind and run after; and for that I thank Ticiana. But the most important fact I’ve learned is really how to plan, something that I’ll use not only in projects, but also in my life.     (Samuel)
