The Project was developed with the surf instructor Jerônimo Telles at Praia da Macumba, RJ. The place is regularly attended by surfers of various ages and Jeronimo is also a part of that group. We attended surf lessons as visitors and watched him surf for fun. Based on Jeronimo's choice of words we have established as the theme for our project: "Late in the set gets hit by the wave". To avoid late entrances and getting hit by the wave Jeronimo teaches the students, for an example, to paddle close to rock, where the tide is weaker. The concept defined as the goal of the project was to show how the sea floor influences the formation of the waves. And the right way of entering them. The final project was made in a completely seethrough box filled with coloured paraffin gel. From the middle to the smaller side walls go up two plastic ramps. One of them represents the smoother more yellow colouring and some green ,with little garden stones on top. To fix them we poured colourless gel on top. Through two cuts on the box's lid go two rubber waves (the material is EVA) which brake accordingly to the floor formation. On the rocky side, where it brakes into a tube, we attached a miniature surf board with a silicon string. It is used to show the route on the wave. For finalization we made a strap for carrying the box.
Working on this project I learned that with commitment e organization we can accomplish great things. I learned the reason of the stages and that they must be followed. Joana.
The experience was good for me to learn more about surf and the sea, aside from learning to work with a partner you do not know. Diego
