We developed our project in the Day Care Center Santa Terezinha, located in Gávea, General Rabelo Street, number 9. Our partner was the kindergarten teacher, Cecília Torquato. Her room is an environment with a great quantity of ideas and informations, which are exchanged all the time. The work developed for Cecília had two important goals: The personal formation of the pupils, who start to make choices alone and the knowledge of what surrounds them, of their own body, with coordination, the directions, the vowels and the numbers. We observe activities like the one Cecília gave figures to the children so they painted using pencil, developing better coordination. She also gave them bottle lids, and they would answer if they had “little” or “a lot” (quantity perception). From the set of words that composes Cecília’s vocabulary universe we recognized as a subject for the project: Who asked this smart question? An activity related with the phrase, was to show to the pupils geometric figures and to ask how such figures seemed. The children expressed lots of ideas and made several questions. From the questions of the children on, of the observations of the activities in classroom, Cecilia’s goals and the experimentations, we reach the conclusion that concept would be based on the LEARNING of the children and would have to catch its INTEREST, through the use of MANY COLORS AND FORMS. As a final object, we made a great cube formed by eight small wooden cubes, with colorful sheets and connected in such a way that the great cube could be unfolded revealing several faces and forms. On the sides it is possible to work with numbers, vowels, and with the drawings represent ing climatic conditions. It is also possible to include figures and draw with chalk. Cecília uses it as an aid during the lessons and activities.
Renata: To make a project is in first place to learn to deal with the emotions, since the initial emotion of not understanding or to doubt the dynamics of the lesson, and to surpass the shyness, passing through joy when entering in other people’s lives and to coexist them. After choosing our better idea and literally starting, a certain desperation and fatigue appears, and we think nothing will be all right and the time won’t be enough. However, in the end, we reached an enormous satisfaction, pride. We will be always part of other people’s lives and we learned to like these people, who we’ll never get to know... The good and bad moments taught us lessons for the entire life, and we learned a little bit about production process and not giving up. These are lessons we’ll carry on forever. I am thankful for Rodrigo for fulfilling his part and for always being comprehensive with me generating confidence. I am thankful for Cecília for never doubting the fact that we always tried to simplify her job, generating in me gratitude.
Rodrigo: To make a project is to experiment all the time until exhaustion is reached, as we are making a projection of what the object will be very soon, being it successful or not. When we began the project, I didn’t have any clue of the amount of obstacles we’d have to win in order to achieve perfection. However I never thought about giving up, or else everything we had in mind would end at that moment. I am thankful to several people, especially Cecilia, who participated significantly in the project giving us important advice. I don’t have words to describe my feelings when I saw the complete project. I only said to myself: “ I made part of this ”. I am thankful for Prof. Cecília for been considerate during this time which generated tranquillity in me to continue in the project. I am thankful for Renata for being an excellent friend which generated happiness in me.
