We did the project at a gym called Velox. We chose the swimming classes for babies because we identify with children. The teacher’s name is Adriana, and her function is to help the babies acquire balance, and learn how to swim eventually. Adriana explains that the presence of the parents is very important for the babies, because it helps in the growth and helps the parent-son relationship. She teaches the whole class with different songs, so that the babies can follow along and do as they are told. The babies use mattresses and a bar to hold on to while going around the pool, by seeing this we realized that the teacher does not like toys or boias. She explains that both of these objects get in the way of the baby’s development. We recognize as a theme for the project the following phrase: “Singing and dancing lets dive.” The theme for our project was base don the music sang and phrases said by Adriana. For instance:” five little dukies in the pond, started to swim, when they saw the worm, they started to pull. Pull here, pull there, be careful with the worm, it may break” “lets dive deep" And “singing and dancing”. The concept that was defined for the object in the final project were: irregularity, hole in the center, a place where the children could walk , and hold on to. That being our final object was a jangada with a hole in the center where the babies could swim. We used lycra, PVC and poli-uretano for the finishing touches. We put a hole in the poli-uretano so that we could fit the PVC tube in all of them, then later it was covered with lycra. The teacher is using the object built for the babies to walk, climb on, dive, and from there they can hold on by the side or swim, climb up again and meet the mother.
