| | Building union with the flower of peace Ana Luiza Mello Sophia Leipner Lima sophialeipner@hotmail.com Social Group: Aniela Darienzo Escola Municipal Desembargador Oscar Tenório Rua Manoel Ferreira, 141, Gávea.   The Project was developed at the Municipal School Desembargador
Oscar Tenório, where the intercessor, Aniela Darienzo, is a 5th grade teacher. We
accompanied various activities carried out by Aniela in her classroom, such
as science and geography lessons and dictations.              From the set of words that makes
up Aniela’s vocabulary universe, we recognized as the project’s theme: “learning, participating and
building peace, with attention and affection towards the friends”.  The intercessor usually
proposes activities which motivate kindness and dialogue among the students,
urging them to be gentle with each other through writing and drawings. She
also encourages them to participate more in class, often performing tasks and
corrections together with them.                 After experimenting with the
first 20 objects, the adopted party was the surprise element, the display of
words and the collaborative construction of shapes and images. Another 12
variations were created, and after electing an alternative, we defined as the
final product a flower pyramid which would act as an image panel and a game
  board.               The flower-pyramid was
  made from a rigid paperboard
structure composed of a hexagonal base and six trapezoidal faces. The
quadrilaterals were covered with colorful petal-shaped denim
cloth with transparent acetate external pockets. The base was sewn to a black cloth bag, which visually makes up the
  flower’s core. The petals can
be attached and detached from the bag by means of
buttons, which allow the opening of the object as a flat
  flower-shaped game board, or
its erect setup as a six-sided pyramid. Forty double sided aback cardboard
  cards contain images which cover
various topics and are sources for many words. They
stay hidden inside the flower, inviting the children to harvest them.              The firmness of the pyramid relies
on a cloth elastic that holds in position the bag,
which contains the cards, and the
petals, as a panel for the figures.
The flexibility of the elastic allows
the user to insert his or her hand into the structure and "fish" blindly the image cards, and then place them in the pockets to
display them. The flower of peace is being used
  primarily for the dictation
activity, held on Fridays. Aniela “fishes” the image cards from inside the bag and exposes them in the
pockets of the petals to help
the students to visualize words inspired by them. The same images can create new words at each use and other objects can also be inserted into the
pyramid. After this curricular activity, the pyramid can be
disassembled and opened into the flower shape, inviting the students to
play and perform more recreational activities.             Ana: I thank Aniela for her availability and kindness throughout the project and for guiding us
  with her goal of promoting
unity and friendship among children. Participating in this process and developing a product that complements
its purpose has generated in me a great sense
of personal and professional fulfillment. Discipline:
