22271090 We conducted our project at CIEP Presidente
Agostinho Neto, Humaita, with the supervision of teacher Vera Figueiredo, who instructs children in their fifth year of
“Ensino Fundamental”. As a primary school
instructor, her function is to teach mathematics, science, history, geography
and Portuguese. We attended Vera’s mathematics class and conducted
most of our research there. Her classes usually consist of lecturing and
subsequently asking the students to solve exercises while she observes and
clarifies any doubts they might have. From the set of words that comprise Vera Figueiredo’s vocabulary, we recognized as the theme for
our project: “I begin carefully reading and understanding the world around
me, discovering, looking for and explaining reality.” As she assigns chores to the class, Vera always makes
the students to tackle the exercises alone and simply supervises them and
aids them if doubts arise. Vera’s manner of teaching encourages students to
learn by themselves and formulate questions by themselves instead of
mindlessly feeding information to the kids. Through this self-study approach
the kids gain a certain independence which allows them to understand the
world around them, so they can then discover and decide what is real. From
data collected in our first experiment, we decided that we should create a
trivia game that involved the material being covered in class, so they are
able to enjoy and revise what Vera has taught. The games would ideally allow the students to play
alone. The rules and answers for the game should also be provided. For the final object we made four boards game in which
the “squares” were plastic envelopes in which Vera can place any question
depending on the subject she is teaching. The outside of the board was made
out of fabric. The “squares” were made out of plastic with the gore around
them the same colour as the fabric. Only the top of
the squares was sowed so that the answers would be exposed underneath, so the
students could check their answers. Vera distributes the boards to groups of eight
students. She then places the questions, which she writes on any piece of
paper, inside the plastic “squares” and the puts the answer on the back of
the paper. Like that the child can simply flip the “square” containing the
question and find the answer on the back. This makes it perfect for less
supervision and more self study and is therefore in line with what Vera
wanted. Fernanda’s conclusion: working on this project was
an experience that made me grow a lot. A learned to be more patient, to keep
my mind open to receive other’s opinions, to run after my goals and to be
thankful for everything, always discovering the positive side of every
experience. I am thankful to Vera for always expressing her
opinions, with
that I learned that sharing my opinions I can help others. I’m thankful to Maria Caetana
for always being willing to help, that made me learn to work better as a
group. Maria Caetana’s
conclusion: I learned to find balance, in small and in big things, I realize
that when I can make everyone satisfied. I thank Vera for saying her opinions. That made me see that when you work in groups it’s always
important to expose your thoughts. I am thankful to Fernanda for putting the project in
first place and giving her best during this semester. That
made me learn that when working in a group, you have to give your best
in respect for others. Vera’s conclusion: This was a precious work of
investigation about the possibilities of putting pleasure and fun into
learning. Pratical and creative tries resulting in
a pleasant, curious and diversified work. Congratulation, girls! I loved
having you with me this semester. Important research work about materials that help
the development e learning of our students, always offering many options to
chose from, trying the best and most appropriate “products” to make the
students think, throughout creative games. The final product was a result of a observation, curious to details and situations around
us. It turned out really good and will be stimulating and useful in our
school routine. Subject:
