Abstract:

We did our project with Professor Daniela Souza at Municipal School Julio de Castillo, located at Gávea, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Daniela teaches the kindergarden students, who are between the ages of five and six years old. During our weekly visits, it was noticed through some activities that our intercessor, Professor Daniela, held with the students, that these students are still learning to read and write. With that, in order to help, we proposed a set of words that make up Daniela’s vocabulary universe. Then, this helped to recognize the main theme for our project, which is: "Children playing and doing arts want to write the letter that they hear". With this sentence, we walk through with our project with key words, such as letters, arts and entertainment, all because Daniela used to perform her activities with the students by always involving these elements. She would also perform these activities through recreational activities, in which we realized that Daniela addresses her teachings to the students. From the observations of the worked performed and led experiments, we realized that our project should move towards activities that students could show both the intecessor and other students, all their learning in a fun. With this, as a final prototype, we built 25 magnetic frames in the form of an A4 paper with carpet frames, which are connected through velcro, forming an accordion with letters and geometric shapes made of imante blanket and carpet. The prototype is intended for students to do artistic things through geometric shapes in order for them to make their own designs as the letters that are on the board, so that in the end of the activity, all students can put the letters in order, and also to show the staff the job done with the letters and forms.

I thank Daniela for showing us her dynamics with the class and a little of the universe of her class, how she deals with the students and always cares about them while worrying if the students are able to learn from what she teaches them. This generated in me that I must always be open to new proposals and think about the public who I’m addressing my work to, by also thinking about how my work will be used by this specific public in the future. I thank Bruna for being my partner during this semester, by always keeping an open mind towards the ideas that led to the project, and by always giving some support and suggestions. This led me to think that a defined group work with shared ideas can work in many different ways.

I thank Daniela for accepting us with open hearts, showing us how the dynamics of her class can tell us a bit more about how it was and has been her journey as a teacher. I also thank her for always thinking about the children as a group and as also single individuals. This showed me that there are great people around the world, and we must always seek to connect with these people because they can show us the world in their own eyes and make us see everything in a different way. I thank my partner Isabella for agreeing to be my partner in this project, always being open to new ideas, even if they were half crazy, and always supporting me no matter what the problem was. This showed me that in a group work is necessary to have good communication and be open to the ideas and opinions of others, because after all, it was them who you ended up choosing to go through this experience.
