Resume:
The project was made along with Teacher Cláudia, at Rubem Braga Municipal School, that is responsable for a nursery class, the kids in her class have from four to five years old. The school offers breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack to the children. Amon ther daily activities that she practices with them are: drawing; painting; reading stories; films; poem criation; name writing and play time. Specially this year, she worked along with the school to teach the children about photos and cinema. They watched movies, looked at pictures, learned how to film, take pictures and what happens behind the process of photography and filming. From the set of words that make the vocabulary universe of Cláudia, we reconised as a theme to the project: “More affection, more stories because it's cool” The teacher's activity that relates more with the theme phrase is her routine at monday morning, as doing the student roll call, ask for them to look for their names writen on paper in a pile, and when they recognize their names, ask them to tell her a little bit about their weekend, how they are feeling that day, stimulating the children to be more straightforward and how to express themselves better. From the observations we made with the experimentations made with Teacher Claudia at her class, we decided to produce a prototype that goea along with her interaction with the children, in a way that it would approximate both, but also included their daily learning, and would be included in our work in a way that could be fun to them. The name given to the final prototype was "Roll call of kindness feelings of the day". We made five cushions with yellow carpet, with the diameter of a pizza, we painted them with five diferent emotions: happiness; sadness; shyness; sickness and angriness. We made then twelve cushions, with 5x5cm, with red felt and painted numbers in them, we wrote the numbers from zero to nine, repeating one and two, with black paint, to mark the days of the month , with velcro sewn behind so it can be fixed on the brin base. We also made the months of the year, with 7x17cm, also writen with black paint on red felt, with velcro sewn behind. Then, we started to make the weather of the day cushions, as: clouds; the sun; raindrops and a lightning bolt, made as the other cushions, with velcro sewn behind it. After that, we made twenty four supports for the children name, we used yellow carpet with 7x17cm and a 6x16cm hole so that their names could be seen, sewn so they would work as an envelope. To write the names and place it inside the yellow envelope, we made cards of poliestirene to be placed inside it, where the teacher could write their names and in the end of the year clean it in the way she finds better. At last, we made the base with the brin fabric, sewn four pockets on the bottom so the cushions can be stored. On the top, we wrote "day" on the left and sewn velcro so the children could plaste the day numbers and the month. On the right, we write "today is" and also sewn velcro so then they could the day's weather as they prefer. Below it, we sewn twenty four velcros so they could place their names and use it as an example if they want to try writing it. On the top edge, we made a curtain with polipropilene so it can be fixed on the board in the classroom. The teacher asks for the children to sit in a circle near the board and ask them what day is it. When they find the numbers, they place it on the day space, same goes for the month. After that, she asks them to set the weather of the day. They spread the yellow feelings cushions on the floor on the center of the circle, the teacher shows the kids their names and each one of the recognises it's own. After they find their name, she asks them to pick the feeling cushion that represents their feels on the day, and put their names on top of it. The teacher then asks each one of them the reason behind their choice, and they at last tell her the story behind that feeling.
Laís Buarque:
This experience was great for me. For teaching me to have more commitment with others schedules, responsability with taking care of kids, and have more patience to explain and teach, watching the way the teacher passes her knowledge to them, with calm, atention and patience. I am very thankful to her for giving us the oportunity to make this project with her and the children on this season. For letting be part of this kindness she has with each. It was very inspiring for me to see how her way of teaching is patient with those who learning dificulties and a little harder with those who are a bit desinterested. This brought me a new perspective on how to deal with children and be more patient on the day-to-day. To my partner Vaquíria for teaching me many things, how to think of others before ourselves, be careful with what we say near to the children, but above all that, how teamwork should actually work, both parties doing the job together. I was very happy for this project have presented me with a friend.
Valquíria Barcellos:
I thank teacher Cláudia for giving us the chance to work with her this semester, having the chance to accompany a work I admire and see her affection with her students and her profession. This resulted in me a great joy and satisfaction to be able to know her. The companionship with her has enriched my knowledge for life. To my partner Laís, for having the chance to be her partner. It was fun to be at her side, besides the fact that she taught me many new things and for showing me a different perspective on what we do. I am very happy to finish the project with her as friend.
Complete Evaluation of the Intercessor:
Valquíria and Laís, students from PUC Industrial Design were visiting Rubem Braga Municipal School in order to develop the creation of the project "Roll Call of kindness feelings of the day" to E.I. 22. class. The students were involved, committed and responsible; they developed excellent relationship with children and the teacher responsible for the class. The work was successful, and has followed the expectations of the children and the teacher.
